Produced by the Cuminum cyminum plant, cumin seeds have strong aroma and a warm flavour. Originally coming from Egypt, they have been cultivated right across the Mediterranean, the Middle East, India and China for thousands of years. Regularly used in a variety of Indian and Asian cooking they are a staple part of both red and green Thai curries as well as being a regular component of the Indian garam masala spice mixture. Cumin seeds are also a great source of iron and have been noted as a help to the digestive system.
