Made from the seeds of the coriander herb, ground coriander is one of the base spices in several popular spice mixes including garam masala and harissa. A staple in any kitchen popular for Indian, Mexican, Southeast Asian, and Mediteranean cuisine.
An essential item for home made curries, ground coriander is extremely versatile and can be used with most dishes, try adding to vegetables, meat, legumes, or whole grains. It is also a great addition to home made chutneys and pickles, and It can even be used to add a delicious flavour to your cakes and breads.
What is ground coriander?
Ground coriander, or coriander powder is simply the ground version of whole coriander seed made with or without roasting the seeds to add texture and flavour to dishes. Coriander powder in Hindi – Dhania powder.
What makes the best coriander substitute?
Cumin, masala curry powder, garam masala make the best coriander substitutes. You can also mix equal parts of cumin and orgeano. Also in the same family as coriander are caraway seeds and have a similar earthy, anise flavour.
Can I replace fresh with ground coriander?
Replace one tablespoon of fresh coriander with 3/4 teaspoon of ground dried coriander. Taste and adjust the quantity as needed.
